Guadeloupe on the path to electric mobility !

Body

In April 2017, Guadeloupe signed up to the region’s own Energy Plan (EP). Drawn up jointly by the State and the regional council, this energy planning framework document sets the ambitious targets of controlling energy consumption and developing renewable energies, in order to achieve energy self-sufficiency by 2030, as per the goals of the Energy Transition for Green Growth Act of August 2015.

Accounting for nearly 70% of the region’s end-user energy consumption, the transport sector represents a significant challenge in terms of energy transition in Guadeloupe. The transition from essentially fossil-fuelled mobility to electric mobility has already begun. There are more and more electric vehicles on the market, and France expects to stop all sales of combustion engine vehicles by 2040.

As part of the effort to decarbonise the transport sector, in March 2021 the Regional Council of Guadeloupe began drawing up a roadmap for the development of electric mobility in Guadeloupe: the Zero-Emission Vehicle Development Scheme (SDVP).

The Regional Council of Guadeloupe, aware of the specificities of managing a non-interconnected power system on an island, intends, along with all the stakeholders concerned, to build a concerted, integrated vision of the future of energy transition in the region’s transport sector.
