The Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum (CREF) is organised every year in a Caribbean State by the company New Energy Events LLC. To date, it is the only private event capable of uniting all of the region’s energy players (international institutions, governments, energy technicians, REN project leaders, funders, service providers, etc.), freely and independently of any institutional framework (EU, CARICOM, OECS, AEC, UNDP or UNEP, OAS, etc.).  The CREF draws over 500 Caribbean participants from 50 countries. In a context of OECS membership and the launch of the INTERREG-TEC (Energy Transition in the Caribbean) cooperation project, the partners were there to:

  • Be at the core of discussions on energy in the Caribbean,
  • Confirm the position of leader of the INTERREG project for Energy Transition in the Caribbean (ETC), and increase the project’s exposure in order to make investment opportunities known to investors and industrialists,
  • Demonstrate their experience in the formalisation of an institutional framework and of the adoption of measures for energy management (2016-2023 Guadeloupe Energy Roadmap) and the creation of energy standards for buildings specific to the context of tropical islands,
  • Make known their goals for the reduction of fossil-fuel consumption and of pollutants emitted by the transport sector, both of which are included in the Regional Zero-Emission Vehicle Development Scheme,
  • Demonstrate their experience in the development and exploitation of an electricity production unit based on geothermal energy (Guadeloupe is still the only island operating a plant that, in 2018, covered 6% of  end-user electricity demand).
